Vivian's test, update 4.

Still no seizure activity, but I have definitely felt God's hand on us today.

Vivian has been exceptionally calm and sweet. Her appetite is tremendous! For breakfast she ate French toast, bacon and a blueberry muffin. Then our dear neighbors Karey and Mark visited and brought Vivian a turkey sandwich, and she devoured that. She just finished a plate of spaghetti and is working on some green beans and corn. Vivian has been quite content to sit in her stroller and color and watch TV. She occasionally asks for Percy (her beloved cat) or requests to go home, but generally she's much more at ease than I would have expected. She hardly seems to notice the electrodes glued all over her head.

The doctor stopped by last night and said he will gather good information from this test even if Vivian doesn't experience a seizure while here. He told us it's not uncommon for seizures to go away temporarily the first night or two a patient is in the hospital. I'm still hopeful that the technicians will be able to record one either this afternoon or tonight, though. I expect we'll go home tomorrow.

Thanks for all of your prayers, thoughts and encouraging words. They are greatly appreciated.

Hi Eloise:

So glad to hear that Vivian is doing well with the electrodes. I am praying often for the procedure and hope that you all will gain some very helpful info. Good time to do this with 100 degrees outside!

Love, Mary T.

Princess Eloise,
If only I could come by and visit: my very appearance has been known to cause all sorts of convulsive behavior. Sadly, this is less of the Beatlemania-style hysteria and more of the I-can't-believe-I-just-ate-that nausea. I just got off a plane from San Antonio and Donna and I have loaded up the gas guzzling land yacht and raised sails for Branson, Missouri to pick up the Heirs to the Slaughter Fortune at Kanakuk. Please pray that there is enough time in the weekend for me to catch the matinee show at the Andy Williams Theater.

There is something deeply metaphorical about sitting in a hospital room waiting for a seizure. It captures our lifelong sense that, in one way or the other, we are always waiting for the other shoe to drop. It is the curse of Adam, of mortality, of a fallen world. I think the best we can do is search for those moments of wonder between the seizures; those everyday bits of joy and grace that often come gift-wrapped as Dot's smile or Hockey Boy's clomping sneakers coming through the kitchen.

You are an inspiring, ceaselessly interesting spirit, Princess Eloise. It is most generous of you to share your journey with us. Looking forward to our next caper together!

Hugs, Reid

I'm so relieved to hear that things are going well. I have been thinking of you two all day long. My prayers have been that she would have a seizure and handle all this well and it seems that most of those are being answered. Isn't God amazing? We are still thinking of you and sending our love.
