My Cooking Club met today. This was our first get-together of the new school year and the debut of How to Eat Supper by Lynne Rosetto Kasper and Sally Swift from NPR's Splendid Table as our cookbook.

We all enjoyed catching up after the summer, and the food was delicious. My favorite dishes were the Supper Tart of Red Onions, Greens and Grapes and the Dark and Moist Gingerbread, though honestly I liked everything today. This cookbook is great fun to read, and dishes I've tried from it have been fresh and innovative without being time-consuming or difficult to make. Best of all they have all been very flavorful.
Speaking of great food, Robert and I leave tomorrow for Italy. We will be there for a week visiting the Cinque Terre and Lake Como. We are looking forward to a relaxing getaway. Vivian's sweet teacher is staying here with the children.
I plan to blog from Italy so check back for trip reports and pictures. Ciao!

I've just read Vivian's story. It is remarkable and so sweet to read about all of the tests, assessments, and other trials you have gone through together. What a very brave and loving family you have! She is a dear child, and I am quite smitten with her!
