Slumber party report.

Dots's birthday party last weekend went very well. Despite her mother's failure to invite anyone until the day of the event, she had five friends attend.

Dots and I went to the Sprinkles cupcake store after school, and she selected some treats for her guests. At home Dots got out two cake stands for the cupcakes. I thought her display was very clever!

We took her friends to Dots's favorite restaurant, Tokyo Hana, to eat. Robert's mom met us there.

After dinner we came home and the girls set up their sleeping bags on our third floor. They watched A Night at the Museum on the big screen.

I was exhausted by this point, having just returned home from Italy late the night before. I went to bed around 10:30 and set my alarm for midnight so that I could check on the girls. I went upstairs then and found the birthday girl already asleep and the movie almost over. The rest of the girls fell asleep shortly after that. Hooray!

The next morning I heard them talking upstairs around 7:00. Thinking this was way too early for them to be awake, I went up there, put Cinderella in the DVD player and told them to stay in their sleeping bags until the movie was over. Surprisingly, this worked and they were quiet for another hour and a half!

Robert had brought donuts for them on the way home from his Saturday morning run. After they came downstairs, the girls went out to our backyard to eat breakfast and play until their parents came to retrieve them.

Overall, a successful and largely painless slumber party! The Birthday Girl was pleased, which is what matters most to me. Now if I could just get her to muster the same enthusiasm for finishing her thank-you notes...
