Perhaps because Christmas has become so commercialized, Thanksgiving just kind of sneaks in each year. But I really enjoy Thanksgiving as a holiday in its own right. I love the weather this time of year, the family gatherings, the food and, most of all, the sentiment of remembering our blessings and expressing thanks for them.
Several years ago I needlepointed these little Melissa Shirley Thanksgiving pieces. They are among my favorite decorations, and I look forward to putting them out each year.
Melissa Shirley is a very accomplished needlepoint artist, and her canvases have wonderful detail. I am thoroughly unskilled at photographing needlework, but I tried to take some close-ups so you could see the detail in the house and the little people.
Melissa Shirley has similar sets for other holidays. I really should garnish my computer time and devote myself to needlepointing again!
I love your needlepoint craft. So pretty... and for a holiday that often gets overlooked, I love it even more. I have a half-finished needlepoint project that is sitting in a closet right now...and my computer has taken over! Yikes! Carrie
I love Thanksgiving too. I feel like its such a family holiday and it always makes me feel so warm. I also love the food. My birthday is a few weeks before thanksgiving, but as a kid I always wanted Thanksgiving food for my b-day dinner! :)
Love it! Thanks for sharing. I couldn't decide between a Melissa Shirley stocking and the one I chose for Molly. The next little family member will definitely have a Melissa Shirley stocking. I love her designs!
I LOVE your needlepoint cuties....I have never tried that. Thanksgiving just seems to evoke warm memories before the hectic feeling pace of the Christmas season.
My computer has also taken over...I can't seem to stay away for long or I get withdrawals...lol

Things I enjoy: playing duplicate bridge, working NY Times crossword puzzles, reading good books, entertaining, visiting with friends, planning trips, traveling, playing board games, spending time with family, working Liberty jigsaw puzzles, cooking, keeping up with old friends ~~~ happy to correspond with other parents about raising a child with special needs
I unintentionally contaminated all of the pictures on my blog when I changed my privacy settings on Flickr. I am working backwards to correct them all, but it is quite a tedious procedure! If you encounter a post with error messages from Flickr where the pictures should be, then I haven't gotten to that post yet. Please let me know and I will update it immediately. Thanks for your patience!

I love Thanksgiving, too. And I agree, I think it's one of the least commercialized holidays that we have. Love it.
