Hockey Boy's surgery went great!
He had the tonsillectomy done at a pediatric facility, and I told him he won the prize for Best Patient in the recovery area; everyone else in there was crying! He says that it feels like "really bad strep throat," but on a scale of 1-10, he gives his pain a '3.'
We got home mid-afternoon, and he has been very good about taking his medicine every four hours and drinking a lot of water. I've been pleasantly surprised at what a trooper he's been. I know that we have a ways to go (his doctor and others have told us to expect a two-week recovery which will put us right at Christmas Day), but so far, so good.
Thank you for all of the kind words and prayers.
Not even 5 minutes after waking up in recovery, Hockey Boy had reached into his pocket to retrieve his cell phone and respond to a text! I had no idea he'd brought his phone with him into the OR, though I suppose I should have guessed that

Sorry I did not read your blogs until right now. Glad to know your hockey boy is back to his old self! Now how is Mom???
Oh... and I tagged you in my blog today!
I'm so glad he did well. I'll keep him in my prayers to heal quickly.♥
Glad to hear the surgery's done and that he's healing. Whew!
Glad Hockey Boy's surgery went well. Hope he has a speedy recovery.
I'm going to try your Wassail recipe...it's different from mine and I'm ready to try something new. Thanks for posting!
I am glad the surgery went well.
During the recovery, mornings are the worst, be ready!
Glad it went fine. Be sure to keep him on the pain med schedule. We would actually wake Drew up in the middle of the night to take the meds because if we forgot he would be in so much pain when he woke up. Hoping he has a smooth recovery.
What a blessing - glad to hear he's doing well.
Poor baby!!! that is the funniest picture in the world!!!! the CELL phone!!! omg!!!!!!
weird karma - yesterday I found Lizzy's "operation book" from her adenoids and ear tubes - she was 5 - they give you this book filled with puzzles and cartoons to fill out when you're waiting to be called for surgery. she had circled the emotion faces - Happy and Scared. She brought her "nuks-nuks (pacifier) and her backpack" with her to the OR. AWWWWW. Thank God she didn't have a cell phone back then!!!
Hope he is up and at em' soon. But it looks like a full recovery is called for. He looks pretty awake for just having surgery!!!!
Hope the smooth recovery continues!
May he continue to heal quickly.
He sounds like a trooper. Much better patient than I am.
So glad he is doing well! Will pray for a continued smooth recovery!
I am praying for the best. Make sure he takes that medicine to keep ahead of the pain. We slowed down because Kate was doing so well but the worst was yet to come (days 5 and maybe 10).
Hilarious. Typical teen boy!
Glad he's doing well! ;)
Glad things went well. It seems a tonsillectomy is preferable to a cellphonectomy! Keep healing,Will.
Ahhh the life of a teenager. Dont'cha love it! Glad he's okay!
Boy am I out of the loop! I am so sorry I missed this post, but hope everything is going well and that Hockey Boy is feeling more like himself!
