We had a record amount of snow fall in Dallas yesterday (over 12"). Typically I love it when we get snow: having a day with nothing to do and an excuse to stay in bed and keep warm is right up my alley!
Today, however, was to be my annual Valentine luncheon.
Invitation:
My wonderful friend Cynthia was flying in from Jackson, Mississippi yesterday. She made it as far as Houston and then had to turn around and fly back home after enduring six hours of Dallas-bound flights being delayed and then cancelled.
So many of my plans were in place that I decided to proceed with my luncheon in spite of the weather. Most of my guests live nearby, and I received several encouraging emails along the lines of "I'll be there even I have to crawl through the snow!"
Last night I got all my tables set and was prepared to get up at 6 this morning and knock out the last of the food items on my list. I awoke, however, to discover that our power had gone out during the night. Everything I had left to do required the use of my oven. Our house was also freezing without heat. When 9:00 rolled around and our electricity had yet to be restored, I reluctantly used my phone to email everyone and postpone the luncheon.
I have sat home all day and alternated between trying to keep warm and looking sorrowfully at my beautiful tables thinking they might all be for naught.
Finally about a half hour ago, our lights came back on! I'm about to assess the state of things in my refrigerator (so happy for my Sub-Zero - everything still seems to be quite cold in there - of course the temperature inside my house was hovering at 50° which had to help) and then head back to the store as needed.
Eloise, I am so sorry about your luncheon...your tables looked beautiful. Last night as I drove home from work on Southwestern...I loved seeing all the front yards with snowmen and kids having snowball fights...what a treat for us in Dallas....except for the 225,000 that went without electricity, sorry you and your family had to suffer thru that part...I am fortunate, never lost my electric....I loved today...woke up early and enjoyed the view and then laid in bed with a cup of coffee, something I never get to do! I hope your luncheon will be back on track shortly. The photos of the trees are stunning. Norah
Oh my! Your tables are lovely. I hope part II is on an upswing! We got snow yesterday and last night (6 inches) and it was lovely. Too bad it has all but melted away by 3:00.
Oh no Eloise! Your tables look absolutely lovely. So sorry mother nature threw a monkey wrench in your amazing Valentine luncheon. Hope you were able to work something out. Wish I lived nearby. I would have come over and eaten frozen food with you. ;)
So sorry about the ruined plans. You obviously put A LOT of work into it. Everything looks lovely, and I hope you were able to wrangle all your friends over for a postponed dinner last night or perhaps lunch today.
And 12 inches in Dallas. Wow! It looks beautiful, though!
Your table looks lovely. I am so sorry the chairs remained empty. We never lost power, and I wasn't sure exactly which parts of town did. I must admit that I loved our rare winter wonderland! Happy Valentine's Day!
what a beautiful party it was! we were in the airport that night of the snow leaving for florida and didn't make it to our hotel until 5:00 AM because of the snow in Dallas - all the planes were stuck there!!! what a mess, but so beautiful. Joni

Thanks for your patience!

You poor thing!! Your tables are gorgeous. I wish I still lived in Dallas because I know we would be good friends! Did your children enjoy the snow?

Well darnit. Mother Nature just doesn't care a bit about our plans for fun and friendship!! Hope it all works out for you! Happy Valentine's Day. xoxo
Hope things worked out for your luncheon. The tables are beautiful; all they need is good friends to sit at them.
Wow...12"! That is a lot...I grew up in Shreveport, so I know that you don't usually have much snow! Your tables are beautiful!
Awwww. No good!
But...I imagine your positive attitude and ingenuity will prevail!
Happy Valentines to you...
Have to say, though. The snow is quite beautiful in your neck of the woods! As is the table!
I'm so sorry. I can tell you put your heart and so much effort into your luncheon. Your table settings are beautiful!

so pretty and I'm sure worth the wait/delay!
I thought about you and your annual luncheon all weekend when I heard about the snowfall in Dallas. Sigh.
