Today is her 16th birthday, but it has been anything but sweet or happy.
Vivian evidently fell out of bed last night, likely during a seizure or in the aftermath of a seizure, and broke her upper left arm pretty badly. She is going to have surgery tomorrow to put it back together with screws and possibly a plate. Her surgery is scheduled for around 5:30 p.m.
Vivian has a splint on her arm for now and seems to be resting pretty comfortably. She's actually been a real trooper throughout the whole ordeal (except when they took her xrays - ouch!).
I would appreciate prayers for Vivian's comfort and healing. I'll keep you posted.
This was Vivian's arm this morning. I noticed after I woke her up that she was nursing her left arm a bit and that it was swollen. Can you tell how much bigger the top of her arm is than the lower part?
At the orthopedist's office just before the xrays. Vivian's arm was now beginning to show bruising in addition to the swelling
Having a splint put on. You can also seen where Vivian hit her nose and eye when she fell. Her bedside table was askew and her lamp broken and on the floor this morning - I can't believe that neither Robert nor I heard anything during the night :(
Leaving the orthopedic office. Vivian slept through much of the appointment, thankfully

Oh Eloise, that poor sweet child! I can't believe that happened to Vivian last night! She IS a trooper though! I will keep her in my prayers and hope that she can enjoy and really happy birthday soon!!!

Awww...bless her sweet heart. That's no way to spend a birthday.:( Perhaps she can have a Happy Unbirthday celebration when she's feeling better? Sending up prayers for Vivian, and your family.

I am so sad this happened. I'm thankful she didn't hit her head worse than she did, but I know you are so disheartened. We are praying!!!

Eloise! I am SO terribly sorry! I just sent you a text, but is there anything I can bring over to you all? Emily and I have a JLD meeting tonight and would be happy to pick up dinner or even just bring by Wild About Harry's to cheer everyone up. OUCH! Poor Viv, I sure hope she does well in surgery and with her recovery. She looks pretty beat up, it's amazing, based on your description of her room, that you didn't hear a thing! Hugs to her and to you!
Oh bless her heart! Being at the Drs. office is certainly not the most fun way to spend your Sweet 16:( I will definitely be keeping Vivian and your family in my prayers for a safe surgery and speedy recovery. Please let me know if Helen or I can be of any help. I will be over by SMU all this week and I would be happy to drop by with some food or anything else you and Vivian might need.

Oh my goodness, I want to cry just looking at the pictures of Vivian. What a sweetheart... I'm so sorry that happened to her. She is definitely in my prayers. I hope she is doing well and will recover quickly.
Oh poor sweetie! She looks like she is in pain. I had shoulder surgery 2 months ago and the healing has been slow but it has been a godsend. My thoughts and prayers are with you and Vivian for a speedy recovery and hopefully you can make up her Birthday!
