Update on Vivian - 7/2

IMG_0678

This morning when we arrived in Vivian's room in the PICU, Robert and I were immediately struck by how pretty our sweet girl looked. Her swelling had noticeably lessened, and the night nurse had washed and braided her hair. She looked so much more like the Vivian we know!

I don't have a lot of details to provide from today because we didn't have a sit-down update with one of Vivian's doctors, but overall Vivian showed a lot of improvement from yesterday. Her morning chest x-ray was markedly better. Her fluid numbers continued in the negative range, as evidenced in her appearance. Vivian showed no further indications of new fever or infection, though her mouth has a slight yeast infection that they are treating with an anti-fungal medication in her IV. The doctor has been able to lower Vivian's ventilator settings to minimal levels, and Vivian is taking quite a few breaths on her own on the top of the ones the machine is taking for her. The doctor is even hopeful that Vivian might be taken off the ventilator as soon as Sunday. Hooray!

Though showing positive signs of progress, our sweet Vivian is still in critical condition. We implore you to continue praying for the Lord to heal her little body. We also ask you to pray for wisdom and compassion for Vivian's wonderful nurses and doctors and for strength and peace for Robert and me. Robert is holding up pretty well right now; I am weary both mentally and physically and prone to breaking down in tears at the slightest provocation (even without provocation, if truth be told).

I can't begin to express our humble thanks for the Lord's provisions for our family. We are also very grateful for the support each of you has given us through your prayers, your kind messages and your love.

“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:28-31

I am praying for Vivian, the doctors/nurses, Robert, and you! I can only imagine how difficult this time is, multiplying when my little ones were in the hospital at birth. My heart goes out to you, and I will continue to pray. Thank you for keeping us updated. Love and hugs, Jenny L.

I have returned home from my own brief stay in the hospital, and was so relieved to read that Vivian is taking small steps toward renewed health. Night nurses are truly angels! Vivian's hair is so pretty! May you feel our prayers supporting and lifting you during these weary days. Weekends, and especially holiday ones, can be difficult at hospitals. Your precious Vivian and family will be in my thoughts and heart this weekend.

What a great picture (well... as great as a picture of your sweet girl in the hospital can be). Vivian is looking so much better than what you described in previous posts. What a nice thing for the night nurse to do ~ I'm so glad you have nurses like that looking out for her. We continue to pray and pray for Vivian, your family, and the hospital staff. Hang in there, Eloise. It is hopefully all going to get better and easier from here.
Hugs from upstate New York

Eloise...she looks like an angel. It brought tears to my eyes just to see her like this...and I annot imagine the stress and worry you must have. We are praying and will continue to until Vivian is home where she belongs...healthy and happy.
